The original name for NASA's facility located
across from Nassau Bay was the "Manned Spacecraft Center." Of
course now we know it as the "Johnson Space Center." |

The original name of the Holiday Inn was "Inns
of America." Later in the 1960's the chain would sweep
the nation and its name would change to Holiday Inn. |

The Nassau Bay Telephone Company was the first
telephone company serving Nassau Bay, however in March 1964
telephone service was combined with Southwestern Bell Telephone
Company effective July 1964. |

Service was Nassau Bay's first gas station, owned by Mr.
Charles ("Chuck") Miller. |

Mrs. Thelma Cleveland
was the manager of Interiors of Clear Lake, and acted as
Nassau Bay's first interior designer. She worked with some
of the original builders to furnish sales models and homes
for interested buyers. United Furniture, Inc. was the owner
of the business, making access to furnishings easy for Mrs.
Cleveland. |

American
television coverage of the early space program was broadcast
from a National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) booth atop a Nassau
Bay hotel.. This hotel was a popular honeymoon resort for newly
weds and the site of many famous "splash-down parties." |

Most
of Nassau Bay's early residents were associated with the space
program. Since that time more than sixty of our residents have
visited space. A few Nassau Bay residents have even walked on
the moon. |
